Sixteen (16) persons apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

Naval personnel apprehended 16 persons engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Alampil, Mullaitivu on 05^th June 2019.

Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol, apprehended these persons engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. Along with the suspects 384kg of illegally caught fish, 03 dinghies, 03 outboard motors (OBMs) and an unauthorized fishing net were seized by the Navy

The apprehended persons together with dinghies, OBMs, unauthorized fishing net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mullaitivu for onward action
