Navy nabs five persons for engaging in illegal fishing

Naval personnel nabbed five (05) persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the seas off the Back Bay, Trincomalee on 12th June 2019.

A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, held these 05 persons who engaged in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. The apprehended persons have been identified as resident of Trincomalee, Chinabay and Mollipothana areas, aged between 27 to 39. Along with the suspects 01 dinghy, 01 outboard motor (OBM) and an unauthorized fishing net were taken into naval custody.

The suspects together with the seized dinghy, OBM, unauthorized net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries (ADF) in Trincomalee for onward action.
