Navy organizes awareness programme on drug prevention in Jaffna

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, an awareness programme on ‘Prevention of Drug Addiction’ was successfully conducted in Jaffna peninsula recently. The core aim of this programme was prevention of drug addiction within the community in Jaffna peninsula.

The Northern Naval Command took much interest in organizing the event, under the guidance of Commander Northern Naval Area, as it is a significant aspect in the present day context especially in the Jaffna peninsula where most of the villagers have become victims of drug addiction.

During the programme, some notable elements such as types of drugs, their effects on human body, family and society, reasons for addiction and getting rid of drugs were discussed.

Working hand in hand with the National Drugs Prevention Programme, the Navy is conducting wide ranging drug prevention Programmes island wide, in accordance with the Commander of the Navy’s instructions.
