Navy’s 4th Fast Attack Squadron commissioned in grand ceremony

The 4th Fast Attack Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy was commissioned as the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla in Trincomalee toady (22nd June).

The grand commissioning ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee. To coincide with the commissioning, the Flotilla was also awarded the coveted President's Colours on this occasion.

The term of ‘commissioning’ is most commonly applied to the placing of a warship in active duty with the country's naval forces. Having considered the praiseworthy initiatives it took for the eradication of terrorism from the country during the humanitarian operation and continuous role it plays for the preservation of defence in the island’s territorial waters, this squadron was commissioned on a ceremonial note.

Being the Sri Lanka Navy’s premier offensive power, the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla has been dominating the littorals by means of its fast, agile and power-packed Fast Attack Craft (FACs) with a deploy-able, sustainable, dedicated and well-motivated squadron. With such dedication to the duty, commitment of highest order to the nation, the Flotilla deserved to be awarded with the President’s Colours when the it is celebrating 10 years since defeating separatist terrorism through blood, sweat and tears denoting the commitment, dedication and humane of the personnel of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla.

This sumptuously organized event was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Navy Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe, Director Generals of the Navy, officers and sailors.
