SLN begins Long Specialization Courses at Naval and Maritime Academy

Upon the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Long Specialization Courses of the Executive Branch officers commenced at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 30th June 2019.

For not being well equipped with facilities needed for the Long Specialization Courses in the Sri Lanka Navy, the officers had to follow such courses conducted overseas. Having established amenities for the course at the NMA of late, the formal commencement of the Long Specialization Courses for Communication, Gunnery, Navigation and Anti-Submarine Warfare was marked on 30th June.

Speaking on this occasion, Commandant NMA and Director General Training expressed their views on the assistance received form the Indian Navy and various other stakeholders for the successful accomplishment of this long-felt need. Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy addressing the gathering highlighted the importance of professional training for the career development and extended his gratitude to the Commandant NMA, faculty and training directorate for their praiseworthy effort.

The inaugural ceremony of the Long Specialization Courses was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium at the NMA and it was graced by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, Director General Training, Rear Admiral Nandana Jayarathne, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Kalana Jinadasa, senior officers and a group of student officers were also present on this milestone-event.
