Naval personnel volunteers to clean beaches in Southern Naval Command

Naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command successfully conducted yet another programme to clean beaches belonging to the Command today (13th July 2019).

Accordingly, officers and sailors of SLNS Dakshina, SLNS Nipuna and Naval Deployment Hambantota were engaged in these clean-up drives at the beaches of Gintota and Saltern area in Hambantota. The beaches which were polluted due to a number of reasons were brought back to places of neat and tidy as a result of the Navy’s effort. During this effort, naval personnel removed a large amount of plastic, polythene and garbage littered the beach.

Besides, under the visionary concept of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva - the drive for Green and Blue environment, a number of programmes of this nature are being conducted in every Naval Command.
