Another Mission of ‘Neela Haritha Sangramaya’

As part of the visionary concept - the drive for Green and Blue Environment (Neela Haritha Sangramaya) of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command conducted a beach cleaning programme on 14th July 2019.

To coincide with a number of beach clean-up drives undertaken by the Navy from time to time, this programme was conducted with the participation of Commander Northern Naval Area and officers and sailors attached to SLNS Gotaimbara, Welusumana and Kanchadewa. The effort was also assisted by troops of 7th Gemunu Watch Battalion and a large number of people in the region.

Accordingly, the Chadi beach area in Kayts was cleaned and a large amount of polythene, plastic and garbage that littered the beach was removed during this effort.

Meanwhile, naval personnel conduct a number of environmental conservation programmes in every Naval Command, working hand in hand with the drive for Green and Blue Environment. Besides, the Navy being a force dedicated to maintain a clean coastal belt around the island is conducting weekly programmes to clean beaches located adjacent to naval bases.
