Navy assists apprehension of drug trafficker

The Navy in coordination with the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) apprehended a suspect with Kerala cannabis, during a raid carried out in Mampuri area, Kalpitiya on 17th August 2019.

Accordingly, a suspicious motorcyclist was intercepted during a joint raid carried out by the Northwestern Naval Command and PNB in Mampuri area, Kalpitiya and found 250g of Kerala cannabis in his possession. Subsequently, the suspect was taken into custody.

The apprehension was made while the suspect was peddling Kerala cannabis by a motorbike. The accused is a 30 year old resident of Norochcholai area. The suspect along with the motorbike and Kerala cannabis was handed over to the police station of Norochcholai for onward legal action.

As a result of the raids carried out by the Navy during the past few days, a number of drug traffickers as well as drugs have been seized. Further, the Navy continues to tighten the grip on drug traffickers in a bid to eradicate this menace from the island.
