Navy recovers another haul of drugs onboard multiday fishing trawler seized off the coast of Galle

The Navy, on 11th July 2019, found approximately 70kg of heroin onboard a suspicious vessel seized in the southern seas, along with 06 Iranian nationals.

In the meantime, the Navy also held 04 Sri Lankans and a multiday fishing vessel belonging to them, for having drug samples suspected to be heroin and hashish onboard. Having suspicions over possible connection between these incidents, the Police Narcotic Bureau conducted investigation to take necessary legal action. Meanwhile, the suspicious trawler which was in naval custody following a court order was carefully searched today and the Navy managed to find another 85kg – haul (approximately) of substance which is suspected to be heroin. The recovered substance had been concealed in a separate section of the vessel, making it difficult to find.

Further naval investigations are currently underway and the suspected haul of substance will be handed over to the PNB for onward action.
