Twenty two (22) persons apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 22 persons engaged in illegal fishing at Kalladichena area in Trincomalee, today (19th August).

Accordingly, 22 persons engaged in illegal fishing were apprehended during a patrol carried out in Sampoor area, Trincomalee by Eastern Naval Command. Four dinghies, two banned nets and other fishing gears used by them were too taken into naval custody. The suspects, dinghies and other fishing gears are due to be handed over to Director of Fisheries-Trincomalee for onward legal action.

Persons who attempted to engage in illegal fishing with unauthorized nets, had been apprehending over the past few weeks and the Navy has succeed to minimize such illegal acts to preserve fish and other maritime resources for future generations.
