Four persons engaged in fishing without passes apprehended by Navy

Four (04) persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas between Pesalai and Kurusapadu in Mannar, were apprehended by Navy, on 09th September 2019.

Two suspicious fishing craft had been observed, during a patrol carried out by Northern Naval Command in the seas between Pesalai and Kurusapadu in Mannar. During the search of these craft, the persons onboard could not produce passes required for fishing. Accordingly, they were taken into naval custody.

Two dinghies and 02 OBMs were also held by Navy.The suspects have been identified as residents of Pesalai area in Mannar, aged 20, 22, 26 and 34. These suspects along with dinghies, OBMs and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mannar for further investigation.
