Navy swings into action to clear blockage under Bandaththara Bridge

The Navy on 27th September 2019 swung into action to clear the blockage under Bandaththara Bridge in Matata. The blockage occurred at the underside of the bridge, as a result of collection of debris and branches of trees, also posed a flood risk in the area.

‍‍‍The Nilwala River flows under this bridge which is on Kamburupitiya road. Following the heavy downpour receiving these days, the underside of the bridge collected a lot of debris and tree remains gushed with raging water.

‍‍‍Responding promptly to this situation, the Southern Naval Command sent out two teams of Navy Marines and Divers to clear the blockage. Accordingly, the naval personnel managed to remove debris collected under the bridge, preventing the risk of flooding in the area.
