Navy's contribution to make island’s coastline free of waste

On the sidelines of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Navy conducted yet another beach cleaning programme in the Southeastern Naval Command on 02nd October 2019.

Accordingly, the Southeastern Naval Command cleaned a 03km-long beach area from Panama beech to its lagoon. The effort was also joined by a group of children and teachers of Panama Maha Vidyalaya. As a result of the dedication of naval personnel, it was able to restore the beauty of the beaches, which were heavily polluted by natural causes and human activities.

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy has been doing a commendable job to transform the polluted coastal belt around the island into a beautiful one. As a result such beaches are often frequented by both local and foreign tourists.
