Navy rescues a turtle entangled in a prawn farm

Navy released a turtle which entangled in a prawn farm at Pallikuda area in Mandativu, on 9th October 2019.

Accordingly, a turtle which entangled in a prawn farm had been observed during a foot patrol carried out by Northern Naval Command at Pallikuda area in Mandativu and promptly reacted naval personnel rescued the trapped turtle. Then the rescued creature was safely released to the sea.

Seven species of turtles which have been included into the Red List also live around the world and 05 species out of that 07, live in the seas around Sri Lanka. In order to protect this rare species, naval personnel have launched turtle conservation projects under the innovative concept of “Neela Haritha Sangramaya” of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.
