Navy assists to bring an ill fisherman ashore for treatment

The Navy today (10th October) rendered assistance to transfer an ill fisherman ashore for treatment.

Upon information disseminated by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources about a fisherman who was suffering from a stomach ache aboard the multiday fishing trawler ‘Sachen Putha 1’which had left Negombo fisheries harbour for fishing on 04th September 2019, a Navy Fast Attack Craft was dispatched to retrieve the patient.

The ill fisherman was safely transferred to the naval craft about 47 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse and brought to the shore while administering first aid. Subsequently, he was rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment. The patient is a resident of Negombo area aged 20.
