The Navy found 227.86kg of sea cucumber on Piergama beach in Talaimannar on 12th October 2019.

During a patrol carried out in the beach area of Piergama in Talaimannar, the North Central Naval Command had found a dinghy with no owner and recovered this stock of sea cucumber in six gunny bags. Further, an outboard motor and a fishing net were also seized by the Navy. It is believed that the sea cucumber stock was illegally harvested and left behind in fear of naval patrols, by those engaged in this activity.

The seized sea cucumber stock, dinghy, outboard motor, fishing net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Jaffna Customs for onward investigation.

Meanwhile, the same Naval Command apprehended 03 suspects with 55 illegally caught sea cucumber, during a search conducted on Southbar beach, Mannar on the same day morning.
