Navy plants 2000 mangrove saplings to celebrate World Ozone Day

Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Department of Coastal Conservation, Department of Forest which are under governance of Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Gas Resources Conservation & Ozone Unit and the Fisheries Associations, planted 2000 mangrove saplings at Sali lagoon in Trincomalee to celebrate World Ozone Day, on 15th October 2019.

Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Meril Wickramasinghe with the officers and sailors of ENA, Director General Department of Coastal Conservation and a host of senior officials of Ministry of Environment attended this campaign organized by the Eastern Naval Command in line with the innovative concept ‘Neela Haritha Sangramaya’ of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

Further, SL Navy always committed to protect mangrove eco system since it has a major influence on the marine environment.
