Navy holds nineteen persons engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets

Nineteen (19) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets at the seas off Trincomalee town, Chemmale sea area and Poduwakattu sea area, were apprehended by Navy on 16th October 2019.

Accordingly, these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted at the seas off Trincomalee town, Chemmale sea area and Poduwakattu sea area. The suspects are residents of Kokilai, Madurankuliya, Negombo, Kuchchaweli, Thambuthtegama and Trincomalee areas in the ages between 19 to 65.Navy also seized 04 dinghies, 04 banned nets, o4 OBMs and some fishing gears. Apprehended persons along with the dinghies, nets, OBMs and other fishing gears were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Trincomalee.

Navy is on alert always and has succeed to avert this type of illegal acts to preserve fish and other maritime resources for future generations.
