Navy’s Green & Blue concept recognized at Presidential Environment Awards 2019

The Presidential Environment Awards was inaugurated as per a concept of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena. The awarding ceremony 2019 organized by the Central Environment Authority was held at the Nelumpokuna theatre today (29th October 2019) under the patronage of the President His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena and the Navy’s Green & Blue concept was recognized at the ceremony.

Naval Dockyard was declared as a Green & Blue hub in order to operate the innovative concept of "Neela Haritha Sangramaya" , the pilot environment conservation project mooted by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Accordingly, projects related to Mangrove replanting, Turtle conservation, Planning saplings, Beach cleaning, coral replanting, Water Conservation, Bio Gas, Waste Water management, Plastic and Polyethylene recycling and Paper free office premises are conducted at Naval Dockyard.

In appreciation of the projects operated under the " Neela Haritha Sangramaya" , Naval and Maritime Academy located in Naval Dockyard was recognized at the Presidential Environment Awards 2019 under the Environment Friendly Government sector and its award was received by the Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe.

Cabinet Ministers, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, large number of officials of government and private sector were present at this occasion.
