Russian Navy training ship ‘Perekop’ arrives at port of Hambantota

The training ship ‘Perekop’ of the Russian Navy arrived at the port of Hambantota on a goodwill visit today (19th November 2019) and she was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.

A delegation comprising the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka, Colonel Denis I. Shkoda and a group of officers from the Sri Lanka Navy were also present on this occasion.

During the three-day visit, the crew members of the ship will take part in friendly sporting events as well as cultural programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy. Further, they are scheduled to visit some of the tourist attractions in the country as well.

The 138m long and 17m wide training ship has a displacement of 6,900 tons and she is commanded by Commander Roman PAKHOMOV. The crew of the ship includes 399 naval personnel. Meanwhile, the ‘Perekop’ is scheduled to leave the island for her next port of call on 21st November.
