University selected children of Naval families awarded scholarships

The first ever scholarship awarding for the children of Naval families who excelled in the G.C.E. Advanced Level-2018, was held under the gracious presence of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva as the Chief Guest, at Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayaka Auditorium in SLNS Parakrama on 20th November 2019.

This scholarship programme was launched by Directorate of Navy Welfare under the directives of the Commander of the Navy, in view of uplifting the higher education of the children of Naval families.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander of the Navy paid his best wishes for university selected children and stated that similar to the grade 5 scholarship examination and G.C.E. O/L, for the first time best achievers of G.C.E. Advanced Level are awarded scholarships to motivate them towards their future higher academic performances. Further, he urged the children to strengthen their Knowledge, skills and especially attitudes to build up a unblemished personal character while keeping away from the dangerous drug menace during the academic years in the universities and even in the society to make a successful life.

Accordingly, two (02) children of retired disabled Naval war heroes and fourteen (14) children of Naval personnel in active service, all together sixteen (16) children were awarded scholarship worth Rs. 50,000.00 each.

Director General Services Rear Admiral Nilantha Heenatigala, Director Naval Welfare Commodore Senarath Wijesooriya, Senior officers attached to the Naval Headquarters and the parents of scholarship recipients were also present on this occasion.
