Navy assists ‘Padha Yathra’ from Nagadeepa to Katharagama conducted by disabled servicemen

Two disabled personnel representing Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Army commenced their efforts of conducting ‘PadhaYathra’ from Nagadeepa to Katharagama, at the Nagadeepa ancient, historical temple, on 22nd November 2019. Sri Lanka Navy provided required assistance for them.

Accordingly, the two servicemen, Chief Petty Officer MBW Kumara of SL Navy and Piyatissa of SL Army launched the walk at the Nagadeepa temple on completion of religious observances and they were evoked blessings with pirith chanting conducted by Chief Prelate of Northern Province and Chief incumbent of Nagadeepa temple Most Venerable Praveenacharya Navadagala Padumakiththi Thissa Thero with the Maha Sanga.

The Northern Naval Command provided sea transportation facilities for the two disabled servicemen from Kurikadduwan to Nagadeepa and back. They are also facilitated with security and refreshments by SL Navy during the ‘PadhaYathra’ from Kurikadduwan to Jaffna.

The event is aimed at uplifting self-esteem, and self-confidence of disabled servicemen of the country and the participants would complete about 1,000 Km for accomplishing their precious engagement at Katharagama sacred site. A host of officers and sailors attached to the Northern Naval Command, SL Army personnel were present on the inaugural ceremony.
