Navy apprehends six persons with illegally caught sea cucumber

Six (06) persons who engaged in illegal poaching of sea cucumber were apprehended by Navy during raids carried out at the Karadakkuliya beach area in Silawathura on 03rd December.

Keeping with Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to restrain illegal fishing and trading in the country’s territorial waters, a raid was carried out aiming Karadakkuliya beach area in Silawathura. During the rais, a suspicious boat was inspected and onboard, discovered 977 Sea Cucumbers. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the fishermen had conducted poaching without a valid license. The apprehended, aged 23 and 33 have been identified as residents of Karadakkuliya, Mannar and Kondachchikuda.

Navy personnel seized 02 dinghies, 02 OBMs, 977 illegally caught sea cucumbers, during the raid. The apprehended persons along with the dinghies, OBMs, stock of sea cucumber, were handed over to the Inspector of Fisheries-Mannar for further investigation.
