Navy apprehends nine persons carrying out illegal fishing

Nine persons who were engaged in illegal fishing were apprehended by Sri Lanka Navy during patrol carried out off the shores of Kimbulbokka, Kalpitiya on 03rd December.

Keeping with Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to restrain illegal fishing and trading in the country’s territorial waters, a search patrol was carried out off the shores of Kimbulbokka, Kalpitiya; the suspect divers were caught poaching without valid license. The suspects along with 03 dinghys, 85kg of fish, 165 Sea Cucumbers, 03 OBMs and a number of diving equipment were apprehended. The apprehended, aged between 25 to 42 have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya, Mulathivu and Puttalam areas.

The apprehended dinghies, OBMs, illegally caught fish and sea cucumber along with the suspects were handed over to the Inspector of Fisheries - Puttalam for further investigation.
