818 kg of Beedi leaves recovered alog with nine suspects during a Naval raid

818kg of Beedi leaves has been recovered while being transported, along with nine people, on the coast of Kappaladdi, Kalpitiya by Sri Lanka Navy on 06th December.

The raid which was a part of a string of coastal raids carried out by the Navy on the coastal line of Kappaladdi on the 06th December, a set of suspicious vehicles were checked by naval personnel and the amount of Beedi leaves were discovered assorted in parcels and loaded on to two lorries, a cab and a van. The suspects, residents of Puttalam, Naula, Mathale, Kalpitiya, Thalawila and Galewela, aged between 23 to 60.

The content, along with the suspects and vehicles have been handed over to customs office- Colombo for further investigations. The Navy continues its efforts in foiling the attempts of smuggling across the sea and coastal areas around the island.
