Navy renders assistance to flood victims in Randiyagama

The community in Randiyagama has been distressed by flood after heavy downpour. Being alert to the disasters and damages caused to the public life, Sri Lanka Navy conducted a relief operation on 11th December 2019.

The Navy being one of the first responders during a disaster situation in the country, has deployed relief teams in many parts of the island slashed by inclement weather. Accordingly, a naval relief team was engaged to drain out flood water collected at the village of Randiyagama in Vennappuwa Divisional Secretariat, Puttalam, causing inconvenience to public life.

Personnel attached to the Sri Lanka Navy's Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) has already been deployed for relief and rescue duties in flood affected areas. Further, under the guidance of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva relief teams have been deployed in all naval command to respond to flood emergencies and naval personnel are engaged to clean rivers, canals and bridges obstructed by debris.
