422 recruits of 237th intake pass out in Poonewa

On completion of their basic training, four hundred and twenty two (422) recruits of the 237th intake, passed out at the main parade ground of SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa on 16th December 2019. Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Venerable Maha Sanga and religious dignitaries of other faiths, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sudath Kurukulasooriya, Commandant SLNS Shiksha, Commodore Saman Perera, officers representing the Naval Headquarters and North Central Naval Command, sailors, senior officers from the sister services and Police, officials from the government institutions in the area and parents of the newly passed out recruits were also present on this occasion.

In recognition of the excellent display of performance during training, trophies were presented to the outstanding recruits. Accordingly, Recruit NHA Jayamal was adjudged the Best Recruit of the 237th intake. Recruit JASGM Jayalath won the award for securing the highest aggregate in all subjects. Further, Recruit SDAL Samarathunga was adjudged the Best Marksman and Recruit NHA Jayamal and Woman Recruit PHSM Herath won the awards for the Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman respectively. Meanwhile, “Nandimithra” Division became the Best Division of the 237th<> intake.

The ceremonial evening was made more colourful with an impressive drill display presented by the passed out recruits of 237th intake followed by a cultural show of the Navy’s Cultural Troupe.
