Navy assists apprehension of 03 persons for attempting to sell Valampuri conch shells

The Navy, during a raid conducted in coordination with the Police, apprehended 03 persons with 02 Valampuri conch shells in Serunuwara on 16th December 2019.

The Navy has been conducting constant operations in the country with a view to curbing illegal activities of racketeers. During such an operation, carried out in coordination with the Police, the Navy managed to find 02 Valampuri conch shells weighing 1.6kg hidden at a lodge. Three (03) suspects at the lodge were also taken into custody, in connection to this incident.

The suspects were on an attempt to sell these Valampuri conch shells and they have been identified as residents of Pankulama, Sinhagama and Serunuwara, aged 34, 37 and 57. The Serunuwara Police is conducting further investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Navy is determined and will continue to prevent illegal activities taking place on land and offshore of the island.
