Naval operations in place to curb drug smuggling in Sri Lankan waters

The Navy found a stock of Kerala Cannabis floating in the sea area between Myladi and Valvettithurai today (18th December 2019).

The Navy has been conducting constant operations in view of preventing drugs being smuggled in waters belonging to the island. During such an operation, the Navy managed to recover 03 parcels of Kerala Cannabis adrift in the sea area between Mailadi and Valvettithurai. Meanwhile, the Navy also found 02 more parcels of Kerala Cannabis washed to the Valvettithurai shore. The 05 parcels contained 70kg (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis, in 15 small packages.

The stock of cannabis will be handed over to the Achchuweli Police for onward investigation. Meanwhile, the Navy has been able to curb illegal activities taking place on land and offshore of the island, as a result of its continuous operations. The Navy is determined to keep a round-the-clock vigil against this kind of nefarious acts in island’s waters.
