Navy assists to apprehend 07 persons in an attempt of selling Elephant Pearl

Seven (07) persons who possessed Elephant Pearls (Gajamuthu) with them were apprehended during a raid carried out by Navy in coordination with SL Police, in Kalmunai area on 31^st December 2019.

Sri Lanka Navy which contributes to curb the illegal activities in the sea and on land as well, carried out such an operation in Kalmunai area in coordination with Police STF. Accordingly, during the operation, a suspicious van was searched and recovered 05 elephant pearls possessed by the persons travelling in the van. Then, seven(07) persons who were in the van, were apprehended. By further inquiry it was revealed that these illegal Elephant Pearls were transporting for sale and the suspects were identified as the smugglers engage in this business.

The suspects are residents of Kinniya and Kantale areas aged 24, 27, 28, 31, 37 and 39. They along with the Elephant Pearls were handed over to Kalmunai Police for further investigation.
