Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief training for crew of INS Airavat

A Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) training programme for the crew members of INS Airavat, that arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit, was held at the Rapid Action Boat Squadron’s HQ in Gangewadiya on 21st January 2020.

Accordingly, 30 members of the INS Airavat’s crew arrived at the Rapid Action Boat Squadron’s HQ in Gangewadiya, Kalpitiya, to take part in this training on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, organized by the Navy.

The programme was conducted by a group of officers and sailors attached to the Navy’s Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit. During this programme, the SLN personnel imparted great deal of theoretical and practical knowledge to their Indian counterparts in terms of responding to emergencies as well as rescuing people from natural disasters such as floods and landslides. In addition, the crew members were also educated on prior planning, providing relief measures and disaster management, in the event of an emergency.

The programme was closely monitored by the Commanding Officer of the Rapid Action Boat Squadron’s HQ. The members of INS Airavat, who took part in this programme, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Navy for offering this great opportunity.
