Navy, Air Force and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force conduct Search and Rescue training exercise off Negombo

The Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) conducted a Search and Rescue (SAR) training exercise to locate survivors of emergency evacuation, in the event of a disaster aboard a ship. Accordingly, this simulated exercise was successfully carried out off Negombo on 21st January 2020.

The exercise rehearsed as to how the rescuers could work together to locate and rescue people who make emergency evacuation by lifeboats, in the event of a disaster aboard a ship. The exercise which was conducted about 20 nautical miles off the Colombo hoarbour was augmented by SLNS Suranimila, 01 Fast Attack Craft of the Navy and 02 P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft belonging to the JMSDF.

Meanwhile, the exercise turned out to be very successful and it helped enhancement of professionalism and camaraderie among forces of the two countries.
