Sea turtle rescued after being found injured at Kankesanthurai beach

The Navy managed to rescue an injured sea turtle at the beach near Kankesanthurai harbour on 23rd January 2020.

Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command found an injured well-grown sea turtle washed ashore at the Kankesanthurai beach. The marine animal had multiple cuts and puncture wounds in its body when the poor animal was found. Accordingly, the turtle was handed over to the Department of Wildlife Conservation in Jaffna for immediate treatment.

Under the visionary concept – ‘Neela Haritha Sangramaya’ mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy is playing a pivotal role for the conservation of sea turtles that have been classified as threatened or endangered due to various reasons.
