Navy assists Indian fishers distressed at sea

SL Navy assisted a group of Indian fishermen who had distressed in the seas while engaging in fishing, on 27th January 2020.

A naval craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command had spotted a fishing trawler which was adrift in the Sri Lankan territorial waters at 11 nautical miles West of Analathivu island and in close proximity to International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). By further search, it was observed that an Indian fishing trawler had distressed due to engine failure while water leak into the hull and drifted into Sri Lankan waters. SL Navy assisted to empty the filled water in the hull and towed the distressed trawler into the Indian waters and handed over them to another Indian trawler.

The Navy remains vigilant all the time to render assistance to distressed naval and fisheries and naval community in Sri Lankan territorial waters and the search and rescue area
