Rare “Olive Ridley” sea turtle entangled in fishing net released by the Navy

The Navy released “Olive Ridley” sea turtle, which was entangled in a fishing net, in the seas West of Kovilan light house, on 28th January 2020.

During routine patrol, a craft attached to the Northern Naval Command had spotted this sea turtle which is a rare species of sea turtles faced the threat of existence, entangled in a fishing net cast by fishermen in the seas West of Kovilan light house. Accordingly, the sea turtle was rescued from the net and safely released back to ocean by the sailors.

Meanwhile, the Navy is taking measures for the conservation of sea turtles that have been classified as endangered in the marine environment.
