Navy holds stock of explosive used for illegal fishing

SL Navy recovered a haul of explosive used for illegal fishing which was hidden in a shrubbery area, during a patrol conducted at Southbar in Mannar on 1st February 2020.

Since explosive fishing causes harmful effects on the fishery resources and beautiful coral reefs on the seabed, Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular operations for the protection of these resources and marine environment. During a similar search conducted by the Navy at Southbar area in Mannar 07 gelignite sticks, 04 non electric detonators and12 safety fuses which are used for illegal fishing, were recovered.

The recovered explosive items were handed over to the Mannar Police for further investigation.
