Navy recovers about 300kg of Kerala cannabis

The Navy managed to recover about 300kg of Kerala cannabis, during a patrol conducted in the seas off Punkudutivu in Jaffna today (02nd February 2020).

As part of the its regular patrols in island’s territorial waters, the Navy spotted a suspicious dinghy, while patrolling in the seas off Punkudutivu in Jaffna and recovered about 300kg of Kerala cannabis concealed in the dinghy. Two suspects aboard the dinghy were also taken into naval custody. Based on information given by the 02 suspects, the Navy managed to apprehend 02 more drug smugglers in Sangupiddi area, Jaffna.

The Navy has been conducting regular operations to curb drugs being smuggled to the country via sea routes and this consignment of Kerala cannabis was seized as a result of the constant vigil of the Navy. The apprehended stock of Kerala cannabis will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau, Jaffna for onward investigation.
