Navy apprehends 03 persons for spearfishing off Rathmalana

Navy apprehended 03 persons who were engaging in an illegal practice of spearfishing in Rathmalana today (02^nd February 2020).

On receipt of information to the Navy, the accused were held for spearfishing in the sea area off Rathmalana, about 08 nautical miles away from Colombo. Along with the suspects 01 dinghy, 02 spear guns, 02 pairs of diving fins, 10 oxygen cylinders and 01 GPS were taken into naval custody. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had set off from Dehiwala area and they are residents of Bellanwila, Hengamuwa and Homagama, aged 57 and 61.

The apprehended suspects together with seized items and fishing gear were handed over to the Coast Guard Dikovita for onward action.
