Navy made Weed Remover Machine handed over to Land Development Corporation

In parallel with the World Wetlands Day a project to plant 1000 ‘Mee’ and ‘Kumbuk’ saplings along the canals of Colombo city by the Sri Lanka Navy and Land Development Corporation got off the ground at the Diyasaru Park today 02nd February 2020. Meanwhile, handing over of a Weed Remover Machine, an invention of the Engineering branch of Sri Lanka Navy to the Land Development Corporation also took place on this occasion.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva officially handed over the Weed Remover Machine to the Land Development Corporation. This Weed Remover Machine can remove a large quantity of harmful aquatic weeds, which is about 2 tons per hour, and at the same time mechanically fills the bags and can be used for organic fertilizer production without the need of extra labour.

Tree planting project aims to enhance biodiversity and protect the conducive environment of Colombo, the world`s first Ramsar Wetland Capital for future generations. The event was also attended by Major General (Rtd) MRW De Zoysa, the Chairman, Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation.
