Navy holds a cache of explosive used for illegal fishing

Navy recovered a cache of explosive used for illegal fishing during a search conducted by SL Navy at Pallimunai area in Mannar, on 03^rd February 2020.

Since, the using explosive for fishing severely damage the marine eco system, SL Navy carries out operations in order to avert such illegal attempts. Accordingly, during a raid carried out by Navy at Pallimunai area, three non electric detonators and three gelignite sticks which were hidden in .a cactus bush near Konthapiddi fisheries harbor.

It is believed that these explosive items have been abandoned as a result of frequent Naval patrols. The recovered items were handed over to the Mannar Police for onward action.
