Navy recovers a stock of illegally kept sea cucumber

The Navy apprehended two (02) persons with 350 live sea cucumbers, during a raid conducted at Southbar in Mannar today (05th February 2020).

Being a key player in conducting operations to prevent illegal fishing activities, the Navy carried out this search operation at the Southbar beach area in Mannar and apprehended 02 persons for illegal possession of about 350 sea cucumbers, without license. Along with the suspects a dinghy, an outboard motor, 08 oxygen cylinders and several other fishing gear were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Mannar, aged 26 and 36.

The accused along with the stock of sea cucumber, dinghy, outboard motor, oxygen cylinders and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward action.
