Navy apprehends four persons while illegal sand mining

Navy apprehended four(04) persons who were engaging in illegal sand mining without permit in Ginganga, on 05th February 2020.

During a raid conducted by Southern Naval Command, the suspects were arrested while mining sand illegally in Ginganga without permit. One cube of illegally mined sand and equipment used for sand mining were also taken into Naval custody. The suspects were identified as residents of Wakwella, Poddala and Ganegama areas.

The arrested suspects, 01 cube of illegally mined sand and the equipment used for sand mining were handed over to Thelikkada and Baddegama Police Stations for further investigation. In order to prevent the damages caused to the eco system by illegal sand mining, SL Navy conducts constant raids and search operations, contributing in the national programme on environmental conservation.
