Navy assists to apprehend a person with approximately 110kg of Kerala Cannabis

The Navy in coordination with the Sri Lanka Excise apprehended a person with approximately 110kg of Kerala cannabis, during a search operation carried out at Thodamanaru beach area in Jaffna, today (06th February 2020).

As an extension of Navy’s continuous drug prevention operations in the seas around the island, Navy in coordination with Excise Station-Chankanai conducted a raid at Thodamanaru beach area in Jaffna and recovered about 110kg of Kerala cannabis which were made ready for transportation. A suspect was also apprehend there and he was identified as a resident of Palali area, aged 34.

This apprehension could be made due to the constant raids conducted by Navy to foil the drug trafficking attempts to the island through sea routes. Further investigation on the suspect and the haul of Kerala cannabis is conducted by Excise Station-Chankanai.
