Four (04) persons apprehended for engaging in light course fishing

The Navy apprehended 04 persons for engaging in light course fishing in the sea area of Hikkaduwa, during a search operation conducted with the Fisheries Inspecting Officials of Galle on 07th February 2020.

As illegal fishing practices often causes grave damages on marine habitats that support marine life, the Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular patrols in prevention of such activities. Accordingly, the Navy managed to apprehend 04 persons who engaged in the illegal practice of light course fishing in the sea area of Hikkaduwa. The search operation was also joined by officials of Fisheries Office of Galle. Three (03) dinghies and several other fishing gear used for this illegal activity were also seized during this operation.

The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Ambalangoda area. The Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Galle is conducting further investigation into the incident.
