Navy renders assistance to remove common water hyacinth in Herallugama Tank

The Navy, on 09th February 2020, provided manpower to remove common water hyacinth collected in the Herallugama Tank at Thulana, Medawachchiya, enabling the community to use it again.

This water body has long been unusable due to the accumulation of common water hyacinth which is often a highly problematic invasive species. Responding to this timely issue, naval personnel took a lot of their time off to clean the tank filled with these free-floating aquatic plants.

The residents of the area also thanked the Navy for cleaning up the tank, as the collection of water hyacinth has been a great hassle for the tank users.
