Commander of the Navy visits Northwestern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva made a visit to the Northwestern Naval Command on 11th and 12th February 2020. The Navy Commander was warmly received by Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera, according a Guard of Honour on the arrival of Navy Chief.

Commander of the Navy first visited the Baththalangunduwa Naval Detachment belonging to SLNS Vijaya and declared open a newly constructed jetty which was inspired by the design of himself. This facility will henceforth be beneficial to both naval personnel as well as the fisheries community on the Baththalangunduwa Island, to carry out their routine work with ease.

Thereupon, Commander of the Navy visited SLNS Barana, SLNS Therapuththa, Rapid Action Boat Squadron’s HQ and Naval Deployment of Mahawa, belonging to the Northwestern Naval Command. During the visit, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva declared open a new wardroom complex for officers as well as a sailors’ mess and laid a foundation stone for a similar facility.

Further, the Navy Chief also addressed officers and sailors attached to respective establishments and highlighted several matters which are important when performing their duties. Commander of the Navy also planted a mango sapling to signify the visit, before culminating his tour to the Northwestern Naval Command.
