‘Uththara Walk’ organized in Northern Naval Command comes to successful end

The ‘Uththara Walk’ organized in Northern Naval Command, in view of underlining the importance of physical well-being of naval personnel, came to a successful end on 16th February 2020.

The event was organized by the Commanding Officer of SLNS Uththara, Captain Mahesh De Silva under the directives of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera.

Accordingly a group of 350 naval personnel including the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area and Heads of Departments strode off 17km at a stretch from SLNS Uththara to the Ponnalai junction.

Subsequent to the walk, the footsloggers joined planting of 600 mangrove saplings in Ponnalai lagoon as part of the Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility project. Meanwhile, the Navy has been planting mangrove in selected areas in northern part of the island, and these initiatives have been well supported by the local populace.
