Two (02) suspects held during combined operation by Navy and Police

The Navy held 02 persons with heroin, during a combined operation conducted with the Mannar Police Narcotics Division in Talaimannar today (22nd February 2020).

The Navy has been playing a key role in conducting anti-drug operations across the country to curb drug trafficking and peddling of drugs in the country. In a similar operation conducted by naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command in coordination with the Mannar Police Narcotics Division, 02 motorcyclists have been intercepted on two separate occasions in the town area of Talaimannar. One suspects had 3g and 100mg and the other one had 3g and 75mg of heroin in their possession. The apprehension was made while the suspects were transporting the drugs with the intention of selling. Accordingly the 02 suspects along with motorcycles and heroin were taken into custody.

The suspects are residents of Pesalai and Talaimannar areas, aged 22 and 43. The suspects along with the drugs and other belongings were handed over to the Pesalai Police for onward investigation. Meanwhile, the Navy will continue to carry out its anti-narcotic operations in its drive to create a drug free society.
