Navy apprehends two persons possessed conch shells without permits

The Navy apprehended two persons with conch shells, during two search operations conducted at Tharapuram area in Mannar and at Urumalai area in Thalaimannar, on 24th and 25th February 2020.

Accordingly, two suspects who kept 1550 and 284 conch shells in their possession without permits, were apprehended during joint operations conducted at Tharapuram area in Mannar and at Urumalai area in Thalaimannar by a troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command in coordination with Police STF-Mannar and Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Mannar.

The apprehended suspects have been identified as residents of the same areas, aged 32. The suspects along with the seized conch shells were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mannar for onward action.
