During a patrol conducted in beach area of Vankalei today (28th February 2020), the Navy managed to apprehend 03 persons with 05 unauthorized fishing nets.
The Navy is playing a key role in preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems as they are considered to be the lifeblood of the humankind. During a patrol conducted in beach area of Vankalei, naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command managed to apprehend these 03 persons with 05 unauthorized fishing nets. Apart from that, a dinghy and several other fishing gear were also seized by the Navy. The suspects have been identified as residents of the same area, aged 35, 38 and 57.
Accordingly, the suspects along with the dinghy, unauthorized fishing nets and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward investigation.
